British Grand Prix 2025: Verstappen takes pole

Max Verstappen took British Grand Prix 2025 pole at Silverstone by 0.103s from Oscar Piastri, with McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari packed through the top six.

Max Verstappen took pole position for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit with a 1:24.892 lap, 0.103 seconds clear of Oscar Piastri. Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris put McLaren second and third, placing two cars in the top three for round 12 of the 2025 season.

Qualifying

Verstappen led the final session for Red Bull after recording 1:25.886 in Q1 and 1:25.316 in Q2 before improving to 1:24.892 in Q3. Piastri matched Verstappen’s Q2 time with 1:25.316 for McLaren and then set 1:24.995 in Q3, while Norris followed with 1:25.010 after a 1:25.231 lap in Q2.

George Russell qualified fourth for Mercedes with a 1:25.029 in Q3 after posting 1:25.637 in Q2. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc lined up fifth and sixth for Ferrari with Q3 laps of 1:25.095 and 1:25.121, after Hamilton had gone quicker than Leclerc in Q2 as well with 1:25.084 to 1:25.133.

Top 10

Andrea Kimi Antonelli took seventh for Mercedes with a 1:25.374 in Q3, leaving Mercedes with both cars inside the top seven. Oliver Bearman qualified eighth for Haas F1 Team on 1:25.471, Fernando Alonso was ninth for Aston Martin on 1:25.621, and Pierre Gasly completed the top 10 for Alpine F1 Team with 1:25.785.

Grid implications

McLaren started from second and third with Piastri and Norris, giving the team its closest challenge to Verstappen at the front of the grid. Behind them, Russell’s fourth place put Mercedes ahead of Ferrari’s third row, where Hamilton and Leclerc secured fifth and sixth at Silverstone.
