George Russell took pole position for Mercedes at the British Grand Prix on 7 July 2024 with a Q3 lap of 1:25.819 at Silverstone Circuit. Lewis Hamilton qualified second for Mercedes, 0.171s behind Russell with a best Q3 time of 1:25.990.

Qualifying

Lando Norris placed third for McLaren with a 1:26.030 in Q3, while Max Verstappen qualified fourth for Red Bull on 1:26.203. Oscar Piastri completed the third row for McLaren in fifth with a 1:26.237, and Nico Hülkenberg put Haas F1 Team sixth on the grid with a 1:26.338.

Carlos Sainz qualified seventh for Ferrari after a 1:26.509 in Q3, and Lance Stroll took eighth for Aston Martin with a 1:26.585. Alexander Albon secured ninth for Williams on 1:26.640, while Fernando Alonso completed the top 10 for Aston Martin with a 1:26.917.

Front row

Mercedes locked out the front row as Russell and Hamilton were the only drivers to lap in the 1:25s in Q3. Russell had been second-fastest to Norris in Q2 on 1:26.723 before improving to pole, while Hamilton moved from 1:26.770 in Q2 to secure P2.

Top 10

McLaren filled third and fifth places with Norris and Piastri, placing both cars ahead of Ferrari and Aston Martin. Verstappen started fourth for Red Bull, and Hülkenberg's sixth place put Haas F1 Team ahead of Sainz, Stroll, Albon and Alonso in the final order.
