2026 British GP: Reported penalties after Silverstone
Reports after the 2026 British Grand Prix said Carlos Sainz, Kimi Antonelli and Lance Stroll were penalised, while Lewis Hamilton kept third after a reprimand.
Reports after the 2026 British Grand Prix said Carlos Sainz, Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Lance Stroll were among the drivers penalised, while Lewis Hamilton kept third after a yellow-flag investigation. Autosport, Motorsport.com and RaceFans reported that Sainz was punished after incorrectly unlapping himself under the late safety car, which followed Max Verstappen’s lap-46 crash at Stowe. RaceFans reported that the Williams driver received a one-lap penalty; Sainz arrived at Silverstone 15th in the drivers’ championship on six points.
Autosport and Motorsport.com also reported that Mercedes would not challenge Antonelli’s five-second track-limits penalty. Both outlets said the Mercedes driver, who led the standings on 179 points before the race, finished outside the points after the sanction. Motorsport.com further reported that Lance Stroll collected three separate track-limits penalties in nine laps; Stroll was 22nd in the championship on zero points.
Hamilton, third in the standings on 147 points, was summoned after the race over an alleged yellow-flag breach, according to Autosport and Motorsport.com. Those outlets, along with RaceFans, later reported that the Ferrari driver kept third place because the stewards issued a reprimand rather than a time penalty.
