2026 British GP: Antonelli wins Silverstone sprint

Andrea Kimi Antonelli won the British Grand Prix sprint after Lewis Hamilton took sprint pole, adding to the Mercedes driver's 2026 title lead.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli won the British Grand Prix sprint at Silverstone after passing Lewis Hamilton, with Autosport reporting a 2.7-second margin at the flag. BBC Sport and RaceFans also reported that Antonelli moved ahead of the Ferrari driver after Hamilton had started from sprint pole. Antonelli arrived at Silverstone leading the drivers' championship on 179 points, while Hamilton was third on 147.

Earlier on Friday, Hamilton took sprint pole for Ferrari by 0.011s from Antonelli, according to BBC Sport and Autosport. BBC Sport also reported that Hamilton set the pace in the British Grand Prix practice session before sprint qualifying later that day.

The sprint result added another Saturday success to Antonelli's season. The Mercedes driver had five wins, five poles and 10 podiums from 33 Formula 1 entries across 2025 and 2026 before Silverstone, and RaceFans reported that the sprint victory increased his advantage over George Russell to 43 points.
