2026 British GP: Antonelli and Hamilton split poles

BBC Sport said the Mercedes driver beat the Ferrari pair, while Autosport reported that George Russell qualified fourth and that Antonelli’s lap delivered his fifth pole of the season. Antonelli arrived at Silverstone leading the drivers’ championship on 179 points.

Lewis Hamilton had led the earlier sessions for Ferrari. BBC Sport and Autosport reported that Hamilton set the fastest time in practice, and both outlets also reported that he then took sprint pole ahead of Antonelli. Autosport said Hamilton beat Antonelli by 0.011s in sprint qualifying.

In the sprint, Antonelli passed Hamilton to win, according to BBC Sport, Autosport and RaceFans. Autosport reported that the Mercedes driver finished 2.7 seconds ahead for his first Saturday victory of the 2026 season. Hamilton is third in the standings on 147 points.
