2026 British GP: Leclerc wins after SC finish
Charles Leclerc won the 2026 British Grand Prix ahead of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, with the race ending behind the safety car at Silverstone.
Charles Leclerc won the 2026 British Grand Prix, with BBC Sport and RaceFans reporting that he finished ahead of George Russell, while Lewis Hamilton took third. Leclerc came into Silverstone fourth in the drivers' championship on 108 points; Russell was second on 154 and Hamilton third on 147. Autosport reported that Leclerc passed polesitter Kimi Antonelli at the start.
Antonelli had taken pole position and won the sprint earlier in the weekend, as reported by BBC Sport and Autosport, but he did not score in the Grand Prix. BBC Sport also reported that Max Verstappen failed to score, while Formula1.com said Alex Albon retired after first-lap contact left him needing a new front wing.
The race finished behind the safety car after Verstappen crashed at Stowe with six laps remaining, according to Autosport and RaceFans. Those outlets, along with BBC Sport, reported that a software error briefly suggested a final-lap restart before that indication was reversed. Autosport and RaceFans also reported that Carlos Sainz received a penalty for incorrectly unlapping himself, while Hamilton kept third after a yellow-flag reprimand.
