2026 British GP: Leclerc wins as Antonelli fades
Charles Leclerc won the 2026 British Grand Prix ahead of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, while Kimi Antonelli and Max Verstappen left without points.
Charles Leclerc won the 2026 British Grand Prix, with BBC Sport reporting that George Russell finished second as Lewis Hamilton took third. Autosport reported that Leclerc passed polesitter Andrea Kimi Antonelli at the start, while Antonelli later lost second place with late reliability trouble. Both BBC Sport and Autosport said Antonelli and Max Verstappen failed to score.
The result hit the drivers' championship picture. Antonelli arrived as leader on 179 points, Russell was second on 154, Hamilton third on 147 and Leclerc fourth on 108, while Verstappen started the race seventh on 76. Leclerc came into the weekend with nine wins and 53 podiums in Formula 1.
RaceFans later reported that Leclerc said he was still unsure why the race finished behind the Safety Car. That added another talking point to a result that strengthened Leclerc's position near the front of the standings without changing Antonelli's status as championship leader heading into the next round.
