2026 Belgian GP: Spa puts deployment in focus

News - 2026-07-13 - By Jenny Marsh

The 2026 Belgian Grand Prix runs on 17-19 July at Spa, with reported deployment concerns and possible wet-weather unknowns shaping the build-up.

The 2026 Belgian Grand Prix is scheduled for 17-19 July at Spa-Francorchamps, with Formula1.com listing the race among the main talking points before Round 10. BBC Sport also set out its coverage plans for the Spa weekend.

Motorsport.com reported that drivers are expecting energy deployment to be a factor at Spa because of the circuit’s long flat-out sections and elevation changes. The same report said Fernando Alonso raised concerns that battery use could leave drivers short of power on parts of the lap. Alonso arrives 18th in the drivers’ championship on one point after 432 starts and 32 wins in Formula 1.

Motorsport.com separately reported George Russell’s view that wet running at Spa could be difficult to judge in the 2026 cars if rain arrives. Russell heads into the weekend second in the standings on 154 points, with seven wins from 161 Formula 1 starts.
