2026 Belgian GP: Spa focus on battery fears
Spa-Francorchamps build-up for the 2026 Belgian Grand Prix centres on battery deployment concerns, wet-weather unknowns and BBC coverage on 17-19 July.
Formula 1 heads to Spa-Francorchamps for Round 10 of the 2026 season, with Formula1.com highlighting five main storylines before the Belgian Grand Prix. BBC Sport reported that its coverage of the Spa weekend runs from 17-19 July.
Motorsport.com reported that drivers are expecting battery deployment issues at Spa because of the circuit’s long straights and climbs. In that report, Fernando Alonso said drivers could spend large parts of the lap with little battery deployment and at times have less power than Formula 2 cars.
The same outlet also reported George Russell’s warning over a possible wet-weather test at Spa, saying the field has not yet raced in the wet this season and that preparation for running the 2026 cars in those conditions is difficult. Motorsport.com separately reported that Russell returns to Spa with painful memories of the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix.
