Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2025: Verstappen wins in Baku

Race report - 2026-07-03, Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Max Verstappen won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix from pole and set fastest lap, while Oscar Piastri kept the drivers' championship lead on 324 points.

Max Verstappen won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix at Baku City Circuit on 21 September 2025, finishing 14.609 seconds ahead of George Russell. The Red Bull driver started from pole position and also set the fastest lap with a 1:43.388 on lap 50.

Race

Russell took second for Mercedes after starting fifth on the grid and finished in +14.609. Carlos Sainz secured third for Williams after lining up second and crossed the line 19.199 seconds behind Verstappen.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli finished fourth for Mercedes from fourth on the grid, while Liam Lawson dropped from third at the start to fifth for RB F1 Team. Yuki Tsunoda placed sixth for Red Bull from sixth, and Lando Norris finished seventh for McLaren from seventh.

Lewis Hamilton gained four places from 12th on the grid to finish eighth for Ferrari, with Charles Leclerc taking ninth after starting 10th. Isack Hadjar completed the points in 10th for RB F1 Team after starting eighth.

Championship

Verstappen collected 25 points for the win, Russell scored 18, and Sainz added 15 for third place. Norris took six points for seventh place, while Hamilton and Leclerc scored four and two points respectively for Ferrari.

After round 17, Oscar Piastri led the drivers' championship on 324 points. Norris held second on 299 points, and Verstappen remained third on 255 points.
