Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2025: Verstappen on pole
Max Verstappen took Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2025 pole by 0.478s over Carlos Sainz, with Liam Lawson third and both McLarens starting outside the top six.
Max Verstappen took pole position for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix at Baku City Circuit with a 1:41.117 lap, 0.478 seconds clear of Carlos Sainz. Liam Lawson qualified third for RB F1 Team, while both McLarens ended the session outside the top six.
Qualifying
Verstappen led the field for Red Bull with a 1:41.117 in Q3 after setting 1:41.331 in Q1 and 1:41.255 in Q2. Sainz secured second for Williams on 1:41.595, and Lawson followed in third on 1:41.707 for RB F1 Team.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli placed fourth for Mercedes with a 1:41.717, and George Russell completed the top five with a 1:42.070. Yuki Tsunoda qualified sixth for Red Bull on 1:42.143, putting both Red Bull cars in the first three rows.
Top 10
Lando Norris took seventh for McLaren with a 1:42.239, and Isack Hadjar qualified eighth for RB F1 Team on 1:42.372. Oscar Piastri was classified ninth and Charles Leclerc tenth after both were eliminated in Q2 and did not record Q3 laps.
Piastri set a 1:41.414 in Q2 after a 1:41.839 in Q1, while Leclerc posted 1:41.519 in Q2 after a 1:41.458 in Q1. The result left Mercedes with both cars in the top five, RB F1 Team with both cars in the top eight, and Ferrari starting from 10th through Leclerc.
