2026 Austrian Grand Prix: Russell weekend reported
BBC Sport reported George Russell took pole and won in Austria, with the Mercedes driver leaving the weekend second in the 2026 standings on 154 points.
BBC Sport reported that George Russell took pole position for the 2026 Austrian Grand Prix with a late qualifying lap, ahead of Charles Leclerc. It also reported that the Mercedes driver then beat Max Verstappen in the race, with Andrew Benson describing the victory as important for Russell before Silverstone.
Russell is second in the 2026 drivers' championship on 154 points, while Verstappen is seventh on 76. Russell, born on 15 February 1998, has made 161 Formula 1 starts from 2019 to 2026 and has seven wins, while Mercedes has 138 wins and eight titles across 19 seasons.
BBC Sport also reported that the Austria weekend brought relief for Russell after another win, and that he had identified Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari as major threats in this year's title fight. Ferrari remains Formula 1's longest-running constructor, with 250 wins and 16 constructors' titles across 77 seasons.
