Lando Norris won the Australian Grand Prix 2025 from pole by 0.895s over Max Verstappen, taking the early drivers' championship lead after round 1.

Lando Norris won the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit on 16 March 2025, beating Max Verstappen by 0.895s. The McLaren driver started from pole position, finished in 1:42:06.304 and also set the fastest lap with a 1:22.167 on lap 43.

Race

Max Verstappen finished second for Red Bull after starting third on the grid, while George Russell took third for Mercedes from fourth place at the start and ended the race 8.481s behind Norris. Mercedes added a second car in fourth as Andrea Kimi Antonelli climbed from 16th on the grid to finish 10.135s off the winner.

Alexander Albon finished fifth for Williams from sixth on the grid, and Lance Stroll took sixth for Aston Martin after starting 13th. Nico Hülkenberg gained 10 places from 17th to seventh for Sauber, while Charles Leclerc finished eighth for Ferrari from seventh on the grid.

Key movers

Oscar Piastri started second for McLaren but finished ninth, 20.448s behind his team-mate Norris. Lewis Hamilton completed the points in 10th for Ferrari after starting eighth and finished 22.473s behind the winner.

Championship standings

After round 1, Norris led the drivers' championship on 25 points. Verstappen held second on 18 points, and Russell stood third on 15 points.
