2026 Hungarian Grand Prix: Alonso sees progress
BBC Sport and Autosport reported encouraging early signs from Aston Martin’s Hungary upgrade, with Fernando Alonso positive and Lance Stroll delayed by FP1 damage.
BBC Sport reported that Fernando Alonso was optimistic about the major Aston Martin upgrade introduced for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Autosport also reported that the team saw encouraging early signs from the updated AMR26, although that assessment remains reported rather than officially confirmed.
According to Autosport, Alonso called the qualifying step important after his first Q2 appearance in grand prix qualifying of the 2026 season. The report said he qualified 16th at the Hungaroring, ending Aston Martin’s run of five consecutive Q1 exits. Alonso arrived in Hungary 19th in the drivers’ championship on one point, while Lance Stroll was 20th on zero.
Stroll’s weekend started with a problem of its own. Autosport reported that a suspension failure in FP1 cost him running and then ruled him out of FP2 because the car could not be repaired in time. Aston Martin is in its eighth active Formula 1 season across 1959-2026 and is still seeking its first race win and first constructors’ championship.
