Hungarian GP 2026 upgrade puts focus on Alonso
Aston Martin is reported to bring its first major 2026 upgrade to the Hungarian GP as Fernando Alonso’s 2027 future remains under discussion.
Aston Martin is reported to be preparing its first major performance upgrade of the 2026 season for the Hungarian Grand Prix. BBC Sport reported that team boss Adrian Newey said the new package would arrive there, after a difficult start in which Aston Martin scored one point across the opening eight rounds.
Autosport reported that Newey believes the revised car could help persuade Fernando Alonso to remain with Aston Martin for 2027. The same outlet also reported that Alonso rejected the idea that his Formula 1 future would hinge on that upgrade, indicating the car’s next step would not by itself decide whether he stays.
Alonso, 44, came into this phase of the season 18th in the drivers' championship on one point. The Spaniard has started 432 Formula 1 races and won 32 of them, while Aston Martin is still seeking its first race win and first constructors' title in Formula 1.
