Andrea Kimi Antonelli won Formula 1's first Spanish Grand Prix at Madring after Lando Norris lost track position around a virtual safety car, BBC Sport reported.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli won the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix, the first Formula 1 race held at Madring, with BBC Sport and Autosport both reporting that the Mercedes driver gained the advantage after Lando Norris lost out around a virtual safety car. Antonelli came into the weekend leading the drivers' championship on 292 points.

Norris started from pole position for McLaren. BBC Sport reported he qualified ahead of Antonelli and Max Verstappen, while Autosport said Norris took pole by 0.011s with a final lap at the new circuit. In the race, BBC Sport reported that the virtual safety car timing hurt Norris, and Autosport likewise said his race was derailed after that phase.

The result mattered in the title picture as Norris arrived in Madrid fourth in the standings on 186 points, with Verstappen sixth on 145. RaceFans also reported that Antonelli's latest win brought Mercedes power units level with Ferrari for all-time Formula 1 race wins.
