Antonelli hit by penalty, issue at 2026 British GP
Reports said Andrea Kimi Antonelli lost out at Silverstone through a five-second penalty and a technical problem, with Mercedes not expected to appeal.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s British Grand Prix ended in a non-score, with Autosport and Motorsport.com reporting that the Mercedes driver was given a five-second track-limits penalty before a later technical problem dropped him out of the points. Both outlets also reported that Mercedes does not plan to contest the penalty. Antonelli arrived at Silverstone leading the 2026 drivers’ championship on 179 points.
Motorsport.com reported that Charles Leclerc won for Ferrari ahead of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. RaceFans had reported after qualifying that Antonelli took pole position for the 2026 British Grand Prix, so the reported swing from pole to no points cut into his advantage.
Motorsport.com also reported that Antonelli’s lead was reduced to 25 points over Russell and 32 over Hamilton after Silverstone. Even with that setback, the Italian remained first in the standings. Antonelli is in his second Formula 1 season and had five wins, five poles and 10 podiums from 33 starts before this race weekend.
