Alonso future comments keep Aston Martin questions open

Reported comments about Fernando Alonso's future have kept Aston Martin questions alive, but no decision on his Formula 1 plans has been confirmed.

Reported comments about Fernando Alonso's future have kept attention on his Aston Martin position, but there has been no confirmed announcement. BBC Sport reported that FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem said Alonso should not leave Formula 1 while he is in an uncompetitive situation, while Autosport reported that questions about a future announcement continue to surface during race-weekend media sessions.

The position remains unconfirmed, with no formal decision reported from Alonso or Aston Martin. Motorsport.com separately reported on Alonso's talks with Ben Sulayem and on his role as Gabriel Bortoleto's manager, but those reports did not confirm any 2026 outcome. Alonso, born on 29 July 1981, has entered 432 Formula 1 races and won 32 times. He is 19th in the 2026 drivers' championship on three points, while Aston Martin is still seeking its first race win and first constructors' title.
