Alonso delays Aston Martin future call

Fernando Alonso has no timeline on his Aston Martin future, with reports saying talks are still pending as Hungary's upgrade may influence his decision.

Fernando Alonso has not set a deadline for deciding his Formula 1 future with Aston Martin, as reported by Formula1.com and Motorsport.com. The Spaniard, born on 29 July 1981, has 32 wins from 432 Formula 1 starts and sits 19th in the 2026 drivers' championship on one point.

Motorsport.com reported that Alonso is still waiting for talks with Lawrence Stroll and Adrian Newey before making a decision. Formula1.com likewise reported that he is in no rush to decide whether he will stay in an Aston Martin seat.

BBC Sport reported that Alonso is optimistic about the upgrade Aston Martin plans to introduce at the Hungarian Grand Prix, and that its effect could influence his thinking. No retirement or contract outcome has been confirmed. Aston Martin is still chasing its first Formula 1 race win and constructors' title.
