Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2024: Norris on pole
Lando Norris took pole for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2024 by 0.209s from Oscar Piastri as McLaren secured a front-row lockout at Yas Marina.
Lando Norris took pole position for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on 8 December 2024 with a Q3 lap of 1:22.595 at Yas Marina Circuit. Oscar Piastri qualified second for McLaren, 0.209s behind Norris, as the team locked out the front row.
Qualifying
Carlos Sainz placed third for Ferrari with a Q3 time of 1:22.824, 0.229s away from pole. Nico Hülkenberg qualified fourth for Haas F1 Team on 1:22.886, while Max Verstappen took fifth for Red Bull with 1:22.945.
Pierre Gasly secured sixth for Alpine F1 Team on a 1:22.984 lap in Q3. George Russell qualified seventh for Mercedes with 1:23.132, and Fernando Alonso followed in eighth for Aston Martin on 1:23.196.
Front row
McLaren filled the first two grid places with Norris on pole and Piastri alongside him. Norris had also led the pair through Q2 with 1:23.098, while Piastri recorded 1:23.199 before both improved in Q3.
Top 10
Valtteri Bottas reached Q3 for Sauber and qualified ninth with 1:23.204. Sergio Pérez completed the top 10 for Red Bull on 1:23.264 after progressing through Q1 in 1:23.559 and Q2 in 1:23.379.
